Cat Entrance

2022-09-03

I wanted my cat to be able to enter at will the outdoor room, or glazed terrace, connected to the house. I built an entrance that slots in with the glass doors, and a separate "porch" that sits in front to keep the rain and snow out. There is now also a cat flap into the house in the door accessing the outdoor room.

In the fall of 2024 I opened up the entrance hole vertically to make passage more comfortable, and added a PVC flap door to better keep the warmth in. The heat radiating from the house wall makes the ambient temperature several degrees warmer than outside. In November I replaced the cat flap into the house with a microchip reading one that can be controlled from a phone or computer, and allows different rules for my older cat and kitten.

Cat Barrier

2023-04-27

To keep the cat out of the insulation above my garage, accessible from an uninsulated storage room, I've constructed a partially removable barrier from chickenwire and scrap wood.

SoC Server

2024-05-16

On my LAN I want at least three services:

I found the ZimaBlade which is an x86 platform with adequate specs and two SATA ports, and was able to get the NAS kit sans the HDD Rack Tray with a $52.50 discount. After installing Proxmox on the device and setting up Alpine Linux VMs for the different services I'm happy with how it turned out. Two hard drives are passed through to the NAS VM and configured as BTRFS RAID1 (mirror), and are physically mounted in a 3D-printed enclosure with drive sleds from a Fractal R5 case. The ZimaBlade is mounted on the side of the enclosure.

Recycling Station

2024-08-13

A single sack of garbage for my garage/workshop is no longer viable with the recycling rules of the city, I needed a space efficient way to put away the four bins I've got.

Air Filter Mounts

2024-08-15

The garage ceiling is fairly low and I wanted to mount my air filter as close to it as possible, to avoid banging my head or other stuff on it. I put four screws into the ceiling beams, and made two adjustable mounts out of an old piece of baseboard with slots for the screws. The air filter can be pulled down and put back up by a single person without any tools.

Resin 3D Printing Cabinet

2024-08-27

I bought a cheap wardrobe that would fit my Mars 3 and UW-01 wash/cure machine side by side to use as a resin printing station, and will house all printing tools and accessories. Originally the plan was to build a custom cabinet, but the price for just the MDF exceeded the cost of this complete wardrobe. I've added casters to be able to easily move it around as necessary; two with locks at the front and two without at the rear. All four casters swivel. It would probably be better if the rear casters were fixed, but these were what I had laying around. To keep dust out, and allow pre-heating when the temperature drops, I've added sealing strips around the front. On the inside I've fitted an IKEA Skådis board on the door, a dual electrical outlet, and a holder for the power adapters.
